Obsession: Amanda Dolan, artist.

I'm a perpetual student, and if you ask anyone they'll tell you that I've declared MANY majors in my time (including pre-Med...yeah, I know). However, I've not been an Art major so I won't even try to impress with art terms, or insight into the colors of the rainbow.

Simply put, Amanda Dolan is pretty amazing. Amanda is a mixed media artist I've recently stumbled upon, and her work really speaks to me...which totally makes sense, as Amanda has said that she draws inspiration from "stuff like Rock ‘n’ Roll, true love, and how the sidewalk glitters in the sun". What girl isn't inspired by such things?

The beauty of Amanda's work is that it's easily relatable, equal parts simplicity and depth. For art-hounds, there are many layers to explore, twists and turns that you could spend hours considering. For the layman, it's simply pretty to look at. Amanda's work can be appreciated by both ends of the spectrum....for once, the "outsiders" feel like they "get" it. And that's what makes it brilliant.

("Green Pumps And A Bad Attitude")

("My Love")

Amanda says of her work: "Most of the themes in my paintings are women related. I like to put a feminine twist into my work. I am always looking to capture the inside of a woman's heart and mind. I really feel like we should celebrate the fact that women can be strange and chaotic- thats what makes them beautiful and courageous. My pieces are chaotic, pretty and scary, happy and sad- all the emotions we go through on an average day."

The artist just wrapped another successful showing at the Ward-Nasse Gallery on Sunday...which I missed...along with a painting of hers that I LOVED(above). I will not be missing the next one!
