Mani of the Week: Gilded Ring Fingers

After the Stylebakery post I made today  (*if you didn't know, I am also a beauty editor at, and you should be following my posts there too!), I was dying to try this mani.

Vanessa Hudgens recently sported this to Comic Con, and I fell in LOVE with it.

I'm not sure what was used on Hudgens, but here's my take:

I used Essie in Turquoise & Caicos and Sally Hansen Salon Manicure in Gilty Pleasure. I could've used sky blue like Vanessa (I recently bought Sephora/OPI's Havana Dreams, which is LOVE), but I was dying to try my new Essie.

I love the way it turned out! This may be my new favorite mani, and I can't wait to try it with different colors and foils.

Now to tackle the zipper mani from a few posts ago...

Fashion for geeks: MP3 player concept jewelry

Someone needs to make this actually happen.

I mean, seriously. I LOVE the little earring with the chain.

Designer: Lee Won-jun, via yanko design.

Guiseppe Zanotti: coming to a gym near you?

No, I don't mean stilettos on the step incline (don't be THAT girl).

Zanotti just blew my mind by introducing a line of sneakers more appropriate for the MTV movie awards than your local NYSC.

I haven't seen the entire collection, but these crystal jammies look...interesting.

What do you guys think?

Roses are red...

This has been ALL over the blogs lately, and NYLON has done a DIY duplicating this amazing thorn manicure by a young makeup artist named Topolino.

Topolino's original version
Featured in a the book Phaidon: Fashion,  Topolino has created runway looks for Alexander McQueen and others, aside from this pretty amazing manicure.

Here's the how-to:

1.  Take three roses and slice off their thorns with gardening shears.  Be very careful, or you will bleed.

2.  Paint each thorn a blood red, or whatever color you'll use for your manicure (though aside from red, we think black is the only other hue that would work).

3.  Paint your nails the same shade.

4.  Take your nail polish and slick the bottom of the thorns with the brush, using it as "glue" for each thorn to stick on each nail.

5.  Wait for it to dry (about 20 minutes).

NYLON's DIY version
Obviously this is a short event/editorial look, I'm sure you'd be losing thorns in real life in t-minus 5 minutes. But I'm still tempted...too much for me for fashion week? Let's take bets as to how long I can keep the thorns!

Kate Lanphear for Eddie Borgo

Eddie Borgo, a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fun finalist, cast editor Kate Lanphear from rival Elle for his latest online campaign. In it, Lanphear wears Borgo's stripes-inspired fall collection. In the past, Borgo has shot fellow cult-style icons Vanessa Traina and Lauren Santo Domingo for his spreads.

Borgo said of his selection: “She (Lanphear)  encapsulates the current undertone of fashion in the most elegant, effortless way, while remaining one of the most real women in New York City.”

Can this woman do anything badly? Doubtful.

More after the jump...

Because sometimes, you just need something pretty to stare at...

Givenchy Haute Couture Fall 2010

Unlike this lady, I would be absolutely breathless and ecstatic if I had the opportunity to squeeze my ass into a piece of timeless couture. Look at her face, poor girl. Who needs a lexaprotini?

Givenchy couturier, Riccardo Tisci, created the "Perfect 10" (only 10 pieces in the collection) An exquisite collection inspiried by Frida Kahlo and The Day of the Dead for the 2010 Paris Haute Couture week.

The intricate beading, hugging and outlining the skeleton of the body with skull and cross bone motifs is a "Romantic way to see death" explains Tisci. The triple layered, hand beaded "crystal skeleton" took nearly 1,600 hours to create.

Other gowns, dazzled in porcelain beading and captivated in silk tulle were dipped in porcelain to create the look of fine china. Another dress, a delicate gown cinched at the waist by gold circlets in the shape of knuckles.

Even in the eye of death as inspiration, it's all still so stunning and gorgeous.

Happiness, Fishnets and cigarettes.

We admire, gossip and even gloat over the latest trends in both fashion and beauty. But what about the foundation, the anchor to our every day fashion?

That's right my kitty cats, today is all about unmentionables.

I'll tell you, I am no perky b-cup. I need the wires, the harness, the double back strap with the nails and chains to keep these puppies from causing a national disaster. Being that I need lots of help underneath it all, I've decided not only will I be seen in the most fabulous outfits, I will also do a favor to myself, my gyno and maybe my husband (Whatever, who cares) and remain fabulous underneath as well.

I'm a collector of antique tea pots and tea cups so this is the most adorable set to me. Found at Miss La La Presents.

Don't even. This is sophisticated, gorgeous and I may wear it to the gym tonight. Found at What Katie Did.

So in love with this. A sumptuous gold brocade on a gorgeous ivory backdrop, great for gardening on a hot day! Found at Maya Hensen.

Kiss Me Deadly

The peach vargas dress gives a medium to firm control when worn underneath clothing, but is still sexy enough to be worn alone. Found at Kiss Me Deadly.

Gold, pearls, rubies, crazy diamonds. Nothin' she ever wore was ever common

Fierce stockings, leather, bedazzled handbags. I'm sure we've figured out that I'm not one to drown in the chutzpah of a Ralph Lauren or Lilly Pulitzer. We want to represent our East Village NYC roots through being fierce, fresh and unforgettable.

Next on my list is statement jewelry. Loud, obnoxious, Jewish grandmother. These are the three adjectives I want describing my jewelery.

What kind of bullshit is "best for last?" Over here, best is first. Of course we have Vera Wang stomping other bitches with her Web Butterfly necklace. With the smoke chain webbing and crystal butterfly, Vera sure did her job. $1,195 at Neiman Marcus.

Every time I post a new picture my five year old goes "Oh no, her arm is melted off!" I love her too.

Getting back on track. Vera Wang gets a double whammy again with this long tie necklace. Using crystals, beads, metal and silver hardware, Vera made sure to use it all to keep us all happy. $650 at Neiman Marcus.

Screw it, I tried. No one else is even in the running. We love you Vera!

And I may have even lied. Sorry. I like this dragon fly necklace way better than the first one I posted. $795 at Neiman Marcus.

Funk Dat

My last post talked about bringing a rather drab outfit up a few funk notches by adding in a boldly patterned stocking.

Well, let's say there's a run in your stocking and you need some sass backup? What better to catch the fall of a legally dead outfit than the most funked up handbag?

I'll leave this post short and sweet, Judith Leiber does all the talking.

Put down your drink first...

The City fans, you MUST SEE THIS.

Thanks to Brittany for the heads up.

There's some hose in this house

I adore hosiery, stockings & tights. Some would even say it's a fetish. I say it's a necessity.

Fishnets under your work pants, peeping through your peep-toes: Not one accessory can compete in making you feel sexier. Cable knit tights keep you warm thus allowing you to continue to wear that leather or suede mini skirt throughout a blizzard.

Even adding a loud color or bold print stocking to an otherwise yaaaawn outfit is reason every woman needs a variety of hosiery.

All at

All waxed up ready for tonight.

Twits are tweeting to the high heavens over today, July 5, 2010 being the day Doc set the clock to in Back to the Future. Truth is, at the end of the movie Doc changed his mind and set it for October 15, 2015. You still have five more years to get the suspension fixed on your DeLorean.

But, with all the twits in a twibble over Back to the Future, why not explore the future of fashion?

Did I say explore? I meant have our MINDS BLOWN.

Epic collaboration is epic

It's been a minute since we've gone bananas over Daphne Guinness. Ladies and Gents that hot minute is done, for the town crier has just made the announcement- Ms. Guinness will be the face of the Nars fall 2010 campaign.

Daphne Guinness and Francois Nars are knows BFF's. They're like Bill Cosby and pudding, peanut butter and jelly....UNICORNS AND GLITTERRRR. So, this isn't just an odd, epic or outstanding campaign. We would say it falls right on level "Holy Shit!!"

Nars himself states that Guinness was the inspiration for the new line; a collection of royal purple and yellow-green eyeshadow along with your "quintessential red" lipstick. While considering Guinness' spunk and glamor as his creative muse, Mr. Nars just said "Hell with it" and invited Guinness to become the spokes model of the line.

Fine, he didn't say "Hell with it" It was probably something fabulous and provocative.

“Daphne’s like a painting in this image,” said Nars, who used mirrors in the photo shoot to capture every angle.

The line is expected to hit in July and stores in August.
